Where did you study for your BTEC with LFE?

I studied at Fleetwood Town Community Trust.

What are you doing now?

I am currently employed full-time by Fleetwood Town Community Trust in the role of Football Development Co-ordinator. In my role, I look after the football provisions that we deliver in the local community, ensuring there is a range of provision available to as many children as possible, whilst also supporting the transition from our programmes into local grassroots teams. I am also working part time with the academy at FTFC in a coaching role, currently within the pre-academy and have had multiple opportunities to coach within the U9s-U16s. I am doing this alongside studying a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching & Development through the University of South Wales.

How did the LFE programme support you with your career aspirations?

Whilst enrolled as a learner, I was given multiple opportunities to take part in work experience which enabled me to get a feel for a few different roles within sport such as physiotherapy, coaching and analysis. It became clear that I wanted to solely go down the coaching route. The tutorial programme was a huge help as it gave me much needed guidance with CV writing, university applications and finances.

What advice would you give to any learners on programme with us?

My advice to learners who are currently enrolled would be to try and get involved as much as possible, even if you try something and decide you don’t particularly like it, at least you know you tried. If you go into multiple departments, it may allow you to figure out more specifically what you want to do as a career. I would also encourage learners to ask questions, if they are working closely with staff from their Community Trust / Football Club, they should ask questions and try to get as much information on as many things as they can, this will all help in their career moving forward.

“Spencer was a great student in and out of the classroom. He was a popular member of the cohort who took opportunities to develop himself. Some of these opportunities included working with the First team analysis department, supporting on recruitment events, gaining paid employment at the training ground and coaching on Sport camps. This has now led to him gaining full time employment within the Trust as well as being involved with the clubs pre-academy. This really is testament to his hard work and dedication to always trying to better himself.”
