Preston North End defender Dominic Collins is hoping to finish the season strongly and put his injury troubles behind him.
The North End youngster, who signed professional terms last summer, has seen this campaign blighted by injury but is keen to finish the season on a high note.
Speaking to pne.com following the Reserve team’s 1-0 victory over Carlisle United, Collins said:
“I am feeling alright now, I had an operation a few months ago and it has taken a bit of time to get back from that, so hopefully I will get back flying and see where I go from there.”
“It has been one of those seasons really where injuries have kept me out, but hopefully now I can put that all behind me and just carry on.”
“Seeing Danny [Mayor] and Adam [Barton] gives all of the lads a great incentive now, seeing Danny and Spid doing well gives us all the drive to go on and do what they are doing.”
Collins’ second-half header was enough to secure all three points for the Lilywhites and this is a quality that the youngster has brought to his game this season.
bq.“It was a good battling game, we got stuck in, all came together and in the end I think it was one of those games where one goal was going to win it. Luckily I popped up with it.”
“That is two in three for me now and I think I have got five for the season. I have unfortunately only played about 14 games so that isn’t bad for a centre half, I am very happy with the goals.”
The quality that shone during the game against United though was the 19 year old’s defending and Collins was happy with the partnership he forged with first year scholar Bailey Wright at the QED Stadium.
“First half I thought that we were a bit shaky, I think that Bailey and I should have won a few more of our headers but in the second half we got to grips with it and I thought that we all battled together and did alright.”
“It was only mine and Bailey’s second game together and we seem to being doing alright. We know where each other will be on the pitch; we know whoever is going to head it and who will be coming around so we have a good understanding between each other which I hope we can carry on.”
