Garnett Takes Assistants Job At Tranmere

Tranmere Rovers boss Les Parry has revealed that Shaun Garnett has agreed to take up role of Assistant Manager after working as a first-team coach last season.

Garnett, who as a player made close to 150 appearances for Rovers, had been doubling up as Youth and first team coaches last term as Rovers battled to stay in League One.

Speaking about the appointment, Parry said:

“We got through last season by Shaun doing two jobs. We had a chat a couple of weeks ago about the fact that if he wanted to stay with the first team and be Assistant Manager, he had to let the Youth job go. The Youth job has a lot of security with it, the Assistant Manager’s job doesn’t.”

“Shaun’s decision means that in the next few days, we will hopefully have a vacancy for a Youth coach.”

Garnett, a former fans favourite at Prenton Park believes he “could not be starting at a better place” though he admits it was a tough decision to make the switch in roles permanent.

He said: “I did think long and hard about making this move because I know this job is a good deal less secure than being Youth coach.”

“Managers and Assistants tend to come and go more often than Youth coaches at most Clubs. But I have spoken to my family and we think this is the best way forward for me.”

“It is the natural progression in the career I want to pursue and I could not be starting at a better place than Tranmere.”
