Argent Blow For O’s

Leyton Orient youngster Jake Argent is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury.

The 18 year old striker, came through the Club’s Apprenticeship programme to sign professional terms at the O’s this summer.

However, a scan revealed that the Argent has suffered significant meniscal damage and possible ligament damage after picking up an injury in last Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Cambridge United.

He will undergo an exploratory operation to ascertain the extent of the ligament problem, after which a timeframe for his return will be known.

Enfield-born Argent was rewarded for two prolific seasons with the Youth team with the opportunity to step up to the pro ranks this year and manager Russell Slade is disappointed that he is set for a long spell out.

He said: “This is obviously very disappointing news, both for Jake and for the Club.”

“He had made such a great impact with the youth team over the last two years and we were looking forward to that progress continuing this season.”

“Jake could be out for the majority of the season now, but I’m sure he will fight hard to overcome the injury and to prove himself at this level.”

“His contract is only due to run for six months, but the Club will do everything to help with his rehabilitation after that and we hope to see him back in an Orient shirt as soon as possible.”
