Garnett Demands Consistency From Rovers Youngsters

Tranmere Rovers Head of Youth Shaun Garnett has demanded consistency from his young players as they bid to earn professional deals with the Club come the end of the season.

Rovers, who have a fantastic record of producing home-grown players, have already given several of their second year Apprentices first team experience during pre-season.

But despite the promising signs that many have shown, Garnett has challenged his current crop of youngsters to display their talents consistently over the season.

Speaking to LFE TV, Garnett said:

“I’d like to think we’ve got some decent players here at Tranmere Rovers, the important thing for them is to show what standards they have and produce that week in, week out.”

“I keep saying to the boys a good player isn’t brilliant for one week and poor for the next several, a good player is steady and you know what you’re getting week in week out.”

“Consistency shows me how good a player they are. Can they step up to the Reserves and give a level of performance that warrants staying in the Reserves and all of sudden then it’s training with the first team and again then it’s standards and consistency.”

With second year Apprentices Dale Jennings, Max Power, Jay Gibbs, Dave McNamara and Liam Benson all having tasted first-team action Garnett has plenty to be positive about;

“With the way our Club is with the financial restraints we know it’s not going to be a massive squad (first team) so therefore we know that a lot of the youth will play in the Reserves and if they do well there’s chance there’ll play in the first team,” he added.
