Cresswell Believes Regular Back Four Is Key

Tranmere Rovers full-back Aaron Cresswell believes that the Club’s inability to field a regular back-four has hampered their efforts to climb the table.

In recent weeks Rovers boss Les Parry has been forced to chop and change his backline due to injuries and suspension.

Rovers, who sit 22nd in the table ahead of Saturday’s fixture with bottom Club Brentford will need to address this issue if they are to ‘kick on’ as Parry would like.

“I do think you need a steady back four and goalkeeper. People come in and out. You have to adjust to it and take each game as it comes,” Creswell told BBC Radio Merseyside.

“Throughout the season there’s going to be changes in this league. There are going to be loans and not enough players in a squad.”

Rovers go into Saturday’s game just one point ahead of Brentford, knowing that defeat, plus victory for Leyton Orient at home to Hartlepool, would send them bottom.

But Cresswell, a Youth team graduate and the one ever-present in the Rovers back four this season, is enjoying his first team run, despite having been on the winning side just three times in 14 games.

“In my first season under Ronnie Moore and I played 13 league games,” said Cresswell. “Then, when John Barnes was here, I played the first 14 league games.”

“I haven’t set myself any targets or goals. I just want to stay in the team and hopefully push on and do well.”
