Vital Role For Duo In Cup Clash

The FA Cup second round clash between Torquay United and Walsall saw two young forwards play prominent roles.

Former Leicester City Apprentice and Northern Ireland U21 International Billy Kee, won the tie for the Gulls with a 41st minute penalty.

While for Walsall’s Will Grigg, a Northern Ireland international colleague of Kee, the tie represented his first start in a Walsall first eleven.

Delighted after being handed a starting role, Grigg admitted that it was a day of mixed emotions.

“I was delighted to get my first start, but obviously the result was not what I wanted,” he said.

“From a personal point of view I felt that I did okay, it’s just disappointing that we weren’t able to make it through to the next round.”

“We were on top for long periods in the first half and created a few chances. We tended to step off the gas a bit after the break; playing against the wind didn’t help but we just couldn’t build on our first half performance.”

“I would like to think that I have shown the Gaffer what I am capable of and will get another chance in the next game. It’s all about kicking on and making progress.”
