Promising Plymouth Argyle youngster Curtis Nelson made six consecutive starts for the first team during November.
The 6-foot tall teenager made his first start in Argyle’s 3-1 home win over Bristol Rovers on 2 November and has been an ever-present in their subsequent matches against Swindon Town, Exeter City, Tranmere Rovers, Brentford and Dagenham & Redbridge.
Curtis has filled the centre-back berth for all these games, except for the trip to Tranmere, where he operated as a central midfielder.
The 17 year old from Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, was given his senior baptism by Pilgrims’ boss Peter Reid in their first round Carling Cup-tie at home against Notts County as a 66th minute substitute.
At the time the versatile youngster, who is equally comfortable in the back-four or midfield, was just commencing his second year as an ASE Apprentice.
Reid gave his fast-rising protégé his first taste of npower League One action in late October – ironically against the same opponents, Notts County, only this time as a 72nd minute substitute.
“I think he’s been brilliant,” says Reid. “I’m delighted with the boy. I would take him out if I thought he was struggling, but I think he’s been one of the plusses for us.”
Fellow Argyle Apprentice, Jack Stephens, was also given an opportunity to create his own niche in the Club’s history back in September.
Reid brought Stephens on as a late substitute in a home game against Sheffield Wednesday to become the third youngest player to make his debut at the tender age of 16 years 234 days.
