Chesterfield are hoping to extend Deane Smalley’s loan after his big impact since arriving from Oldham Athletic.
Smalley has hit four goals in five games since joining from Oldham in November last year, including a match winning brace on Tuesday night against Gillingham which sent the Spireites six points clear are the top of League Two.
Chesterfield boss John Sheridan told the Club website: “I consider Deane a key part of the squad.”
“The extension of the loan does not mean Deane has no future here. It would be silly to bring him back if he were not to play any games.”
“Everybody knows what Deane is capable of doing from two or three years ago, and we want to get him back to where he was.”
Sheridan previously managed Smalley at Oldham, where the striker began his career as an Apprentice before turning professional in 2007.
