Jewell: Clark Can Leave After Twitter Outburst

Ipswich Town’s Billy Clark, who signed a professional deal in the summer of 2010, has been told by boss Paul Jewell that he can leave the club straight away.

ASE graduate Clark had been told he would not receive a new contract for next season and the 19-year-old midfielder used Twitter to annouce the news.

It now appears that the relationship between player and manager has deteriorated, after Clark replied to a fellow tweeter stating that he was “glad to be out of there to be honest”.

In response, Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk: “He didn’t tell me that, if he’s glad to be out of here he can go now if he wants.”

This is not the first case in which Twitter has been used to express career related opinions. Contributions to social networking sites have been known to cause problems for many high profile sportspeople of late and Jewell says that players need to use the tool sensibly.

Jewell expressed his views on Twitter:

“It’s only a danger if you put silly things on.”

The Tractor Boys boss added: “I don’t know how many tweeters or whatever Billy’s got but instead of going on Twitter he can talk to me face-to-face.”

Billy Clark’s Twitter account has now been removed from public viewing.
