Apprentice Of The Month – April 2011

Congratulations go to Curtis Nelson of Plymouth Argyle who has been named as April 2011’s Apprentice of the Month.

Having been released by Stoke City following 7 years of working his way through the ranks, Curtis made the long trip down to Plymouth in an attempt to prolong his career in the game.

Two years on and approaching the end of his apprenticeship, Curtis can look back on this decision, happy that he made the right choice. Not only has he successfully completed the ASE Framework, but as of today, he has made 35 appearances in the first-team, and Monday’s game against MK Dons marked his 31st consecutive start.

April also saw Curtis make his debut for the England U18 squad in an away game in Italy. He was the only player in the England squad not to come from either a Premier League or Championship club – and he had played more first-team games than all the rest of the squad members put together!

These achievements are particularly impressive given that Curtis is still only 17 – he does not celebrate his 18th birthday until after the season’s end.
