Egan Gets Second Chance At Blackpool

Former Cheltenham Town Apprentice Josh Egan has signed for Blackpool after the Robins released him.

The 17-year-old winger showcased his talents earlier in the season as a contender for LFE’s October Goal of the Month competition.

On that occasion he lost out to Whaddon Road team-mate Joe Turley but his ability was there for all to see.

Cheltenham’s Head of Youth John Brough told BBC Gloucestershire, that he was pleased to see Egan fixed up at Blackpool if not a little disappointed that they could not keep hold of him after spending two years developing the player.

“First and foremost I’m really pleased for Josh”, said Brough.

“We saw his potential but in our climate at the moment the club needs players that are ready for the first team when we get back for-pre season.”

“He’s gone and produced a performance over a period up at Blackpool and they’ve offered him a deal for next year which is fantastic.”

With Cheltenham not operating a Reserve side next term Brough feels that Egan could flourish with a bit more development time, something that Cheltenham could not offer due to financial constraints.

“Good players always come to the top and Josh is certainly one of those, ability-wise he’s one of the best I’ve worked with at youth level, added Brough.

“Physically he has got some developing to do, which he will do over the next year or two.”

“Clubs like Blackpool have got that budget and they can see potential, just like we have.”
