Argyle’s Young And Richards Agree Deals

Plymouth Argyle have tied down deals for Luke Young and Jamie Richards.

The two youngsters, Young and Richards, have signed professional contracts – one and three years respectively.

Young, 18, made his first-team debut last February and has featured several times since. Speaking to the club’s website he said: “Considering that I’ve been at the club since I was nine, then to get the two-year scholarship and then at the end of that to get the first professional contract that I’ve been working towards for all these years, is really special.”

Richards has just finished his first year as an Apprentice and although he is without a first-team appearance, he caught Manager Peter Reid’s eye in a handful of reserve appearances last term earning him a deal.

Richards commented: “Like Luke, I’ve been at the club a long time and it has always been my goal to become a professional footballer ever since I was a little boy.”

He added:

“Over the years, it’s got closer, getting an apprenticeship and now the professional contract.”

The next challenge for the duo is to become a regular fixture in Argyle’s team and they are under no illusions it will be an easy task.

“This season, I’d love to become a regular in the starting line-up. If not, I’ll continue to get my head down and keep working hard in training and hope the gaffer picks me,” said Young.
