Crewe’s Murphy ‘Is Raring To Go’

Crewe Alexandra midfielder Luke Murphy is ‘raring to go’ after recovering from a hernia operation that ruled him out of the final month of last season.

“It was disappointing but, as stupid as it sounds, it probably happened at a good time at the end of the season,” Murphy told BBC Radio Stoke.

“I was happy to have the operation and then be raring to go for this season.”

The 21-year-old, who came through the club’s fabled Academy is now keen to add to the 89 senior appearances he has made for Crewe since turning professional in 2008.

In that time he has rarely occupied his favoured central midfield berth and was used on the right for much of last term.

However he has impressed during pre-season in his preferred position and is keen to retain his place at the heart of Alex’s midfield.

“It seems to be going well and I can’t really complain,” Murphy continued.

“I’m playing where I’d like to be playing, which hasn’t always been easy for me to do because Ashley Westwood and Lee Bell have been doing so well in midfield.”

“In the games we’ve played, I think it has suited the team. Whether that will be the case when the proper games come round, we’ll have to see.”

“At the moment, all the lads are enjoying it and it’s working for us,” added Murphy.
