Darlington Re-Sign Pocklington

Scott Pocklington has become Darlington’s back-up goalkeeper just two years after he was told he was not good enough by the same club.

Pocklington, who is now 20 years-old, was released at the end of his Apprenticeship in the summer of 2009, however, he re-signed for the club just under a week ago after impressing Quakers boss Mark Cooper while on trial.

The young stopper featured in a pre-season friendly against Darlington during pre-season in which he impressed, he was quickly drafted in to train with the squad last week and signed a deal just before the opening day of the season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Cooper said: “He’s trained with us and looks quite good.”

“This is a good opportunity for him. He’s got all the right tools, he’s just got to get them out and put them all together.”

He added: “He knows he’s got to lose a little bit of weight, but the goalkeeping coach, Tony Elliott, quite likes him so were going to see if we can polish him up a bit.”

Pocklington was an unused substitute on the opening day and in Tuesday night’s away fixture at Fleetwood Town.
