Tranmere Rover’s youngster Max Power could be in line for more first-team opportunities after impressing Manager Les Parry on his League debut on Saturday.
Power, who is another to come through the club’s youth system was handed a starting role in Rovers midfield at Huddersfield.
And although Tranmere fell to a 2-0 defeat, 18-year-old Power, who had goal disallowed for offside, acquitted himself well.
“Max is a young player who can push himself into the first-team frame on a regular basis,” Parry told the Wirral News.
“I thought Max could do the job and he gave a good account of himself. It was a hard game to give him his debut but Max is here to play football and he is ready.”
“Max isn’t short of confidence. People asked why I allowed an 18-year-old to take a penalty against Port Vale (Johnstone’s Paint Trophy). The answer is that penalty takers must want to take them and Max was at the front of the queue wanting to take one.”
“I think Max really enjoyed himself against Huddersfield. When I say he is not lacking in confidence, that does not mean he is big headed or arrogant because nothing could be further from the truth.”
Power dropped out of the Rovers line-up for last night’s 2-1 home defeat to Carlisle, to be replaced by the more experienced Joss Labadie.
But Parry reassured supporters that the youngsters time will come.
“There is a massive sense of satisfaction to be able to reach into the youth system and pick out a player to go into first-team. I like using young players if they are good enough. It means we don’t have to go into the transfer market.”
“I’m pretty sure Max’s appearance at Huddersfield will be the first of many.”
