Thompson Hoping For More After Debut

Swindon Town Apprentice Louis Thompson is hoping for another chance to impress after making his first-team debut in last Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup 4th Round defeat at Leicester City.

Thompson was left out of the Town squad for last night’s top of the table clash with Southend but he is hoping for another taste of first-team football before the end of the season.

Still a first-year Apprentice 17-year-old Thompson, who has been a regular in the match-day squad in recent weeks, was pleased to finally make his senior bow.

“It was an amazing feeling to make my debut at such a young age. I am so thankful to the gaffer for giving me my chance,” he told the Swindon Advertiser.

“I enjoyed it and hopefully I did well and made my mark and there are more appearances to come.”

“I just want to keep playing games here. I love playing football and the lads are a great bunch, they have been really supportive.”

“I want to get as much experience as I can between now and the end of the season.”

It has been quite a season already for Thompson, who started off in the youth team but a number of impressive displays saw him fast-tracked into Di Canio’s first team.

Such is the belief in Thompson that even scouts from Premier League giants Manchester United have had him watched on a number of occasions.

“It surprised even myself how quickly I have progressed to the first team,” he added.

“I have only been a full-time player for seven months, I was not really playing a lot of U18s football when I was 16 so the steps have come very quick.”

“The gaffer and Paul Bodin have had a lot of faith in me so I can only be thankful to them really. I feel I have matured as a person and I have been training with the first team for close to three months, so I feel I was ready to come on and hopefully did myself justice.”

“Training with the first team has only helped my development. The tempo is a lot faster than it is at youth level and the players are physically stronger, so your touch has to be better,” he added.
