League Two Apprentice of Year (Preview)

With the 2012 Football League Awards set to honour all that’s good about the Football League at this Sunday’s annual bash at The Brewery, London, LFE runs the rule over the contenders for the League Two Apprentice of the Year Prize:

Nick Powell – Crewe Alexandra

Arguably the best known of the Apprentices up for the League Two Award, 17-year-old Nick Powell has been at Crewe Alexandra since the age of 5.

He joined the Club as an Apprentice in the summer of 2010 and was immediately thrust into the first-team. He made 19 appearances for the Club last term.

This season the England Youth International has continued to be a regular member of Alex’s first XI making 32 appearances and scoring 9 goals.

Powell’s impressive recent form has helped Alex climb the League Two table to the cusp of the play-offs and saw him named the Football League Young Player of the Month for December.

Miles Storey – Swindon Town

Miles Storey & Daniel Banister

Despite being released by Coventry City and Wolverhampton Wanderers as a teenager, Storey has managed to break into Swindon Town’s first team and made his first team debut against Oldham Athletic in the final home game of last season.

This season Storey has made three appearances for Paolo Di Canio’‘s League Two table toppers.

Daniel Bannister – Northampton Town

Midfielder Bannister joined the Club in 2003 as a 10-year-old. He became a full-time Apprentice at the Club in the summer of 2010 and his nomination for this award is merited after combining consistent youth team performances alongside his academic achievements off the pitch.

When assessing the category, judges looked at the playing record of the Apprentices, educational attainment, disciplinary record and other outstanding achievements.
