Willis Earns First International Cap

Coventry City defender Jordan Willis earned his first international cap last night when he featured in England’s U18 friendly at Gresty Road.

The 17-year-old second year Apprentice came on as a half-time substitute for Southampton’s Jack Stephens in the Young Lions 3-0 win over Poland.

Manchester City striker Jordi Hiwula put England ahead nine minutes before the break via a deflected effort with Everton’s Hallam Hope adding a second on the hour.

Plymouth Argyle striker Matt Lecointe netted the third for the hosts in the 65th minute, just four minutes after coming off the bench.

Willis’ first international appearance, and clean sheet, continues an impressive 2011-12 season for the defender who captains Coventry City’s youth team.

He made his league debut for the Sky Blues’ first team in the home clash with Southampton in November.
