Huddersfield Town’s Academy received a visit from it’s President on Thursday when Sir Patrick Stewart visited Canalside Sports Complex.
Sir Patrick is a life-long Town fans and a regular at matches, often incognito amongst fellow fans in the stands – particularly for games around the capital.
Sir Patrick, who is the President of the Academy, took in a full training session for the under-18s on the 3G pitch at Calderdale College before returning to Canalside Sports Complex to meet the players.
The Academy’s lunch break coincided with the First Team’s, so Sir Patrick also got to meet Simon Grayson and his first team staff before carrying on with his busy work schedule during the afternoon.
Whilst with the Apprentices Sir Patrick explained how self-belief is a key factor in his work as an award-winning actor, just like it is on the pitch for the Club’s young players.
Huddersfield Town’s Academy Manager Mark Lillis also had a special surprise in store for Sir Patrick; a card signed by the entire under-18 squad and a brand new home strip.
“Having the pleasure of Sir Patrick’s company for the morning was absolutely fantastic for the Academy staff and players and we’re so grateful to him for taking the time out of his busy schedule to come and see us,” Lillis told the club’s website.
He added:
“The talk he gave to the apprentices was a particular highlight for me. He believes that his own self-belief is a massive part in the success he has enjoyed as an actor and I hope the lads took that on board, because belief in your own ability on the pitch is a massive factor in having a long and successful playing career.”
