Blades’ Academy Manager Stays Put

Sheffield United Academy Manager John Pemberton has turned down the chance to take over as Manager of League One newcomers Crawley Town.

The 47-year-old was approached by Crawley earlier this week.

However, Pemberton has elected to stick with his current employers where he has enjoyed considerable success since taking up the post in May 2010.

In 2010-11 he guided the Club’s youth team to the FA Youth Cup final with players like Harry Maguire and Jordan Slew (now Blackburn Rovers) going on to gain recognition at first-team level.

“I have a great relationship with everyone at Sheffield United and I enjoy the work I am doing here,” said Pemberton.

“I felt at this moment it was important to show loyalty because we are trying to build something in difficult times.”

Pemberton added:

“I’m very flattered by Crawley’s approach but I didn’t feel that this was the right time to leave the Club.”
