Mowatt Signs Two-Year Deal at Leeds United

Leeds United’s Alex Mowatt has signed a two-year deal, becoming the fourth player from the club’s academy to agree professional terms at Elland Road this spring.

Midfielder Mowatt who is currently the captain of the club’s U18s side, said: “I’m delighted. I’ve worked hard this year and hope this is the first step.”

“Everyone has done really well in the U18s this season and I hope we can go on and win the league now.”

Mowatt is hoping to follow in the footsteps of recent academy graduates Dom Poleon and Sam Byram both members of the first-team squad.

Byram, who is only in his first year as a professional has been a regular member of the Leeds first-team this term. His outstanding form at right-back is believed to be attracting interest from several Premier League clubs and Mowatt believes that his former youth colleague’s rapid elevation is an inspiration.

“I played with Sam a lot last season and he’s a great example,” Mowatt told the club’s website. “He’s played nearly every game and has been quality. He got the opportunity and took it. He shows there’s a chance.”

Strikers Luke Parkin and Lewis Walter as well as goalkeeper Eric Grimes, also recently signed their first professional contracts at Elland Road.
