Current LFE second-year apprentice Gatlin O’Donkor scored his first goal in professional football last night, netting the equaliser in Oxford’s 1-1 home draw with Fleetwood Town.
Just after the half time break, O’Donkor reacted first to a loose ball from a corner, steering a close range header towards goal. The 18-year-old saw his first attempt bounce off the crossbar, yet made no mistake in crashing home the rebound to get his side back on level terms.
The U’s Academy star, who set the record for the youngest Oxford United player in history at the age of 16 years and 55 days when he made his debut in December 2020, has impressed for Karl Robinson’s side when called upon this season.
O’Donkor told iFollow: “I’ve been talking to a lot of people who have been asking me when the goals are coming, so I’m just happy it finally came.”
“When you come up in to the First Team, you want to do well and make a good impression and I had been pleased with the way I played in the previous games, but it was important to get the goal as well,” the striker added.
