Hamish Douglas has signed a professional contract at Rotherham United, one that will keep him at the AESSEAL New York Stadium until the summer of 2025, the South Yorkshire club have confirmed.
The young defender joined Rotherham at the age of 12 and has progressed successfully through the ranks, establishing himself as a key player for the U18s.
Douglas’ impressive displays in the Academy caught the eye of first team boss Matt Taylor and as a result was included in the group that travelled to Cyprus for the senior side’s overseas training camp during the World Cup break.
The Millers have acted quickly to tie Douglas down to professional terms and the 17-year-old spoke to www.themillers.co.uk of his happiness at signing his first pro deal.
Douglas said: “I’m absolutely delighted, it is a dream come true for me and I’m so happy that all of my hard work to date has paid off in earning this contract, but the real work starts now.
“I’m really grateful for the guidance that the Gaffer and the coaching staff have given me since they walked through the door.
“Their attention to detail in training, day in day out and what they’ve done for me has been amazing. They got me straight up there and I’ve loved it ever since, and they took me to Cyprus which was an incredible experience.
“I would also like to thank everyone at the Academy for believing in me and helping me get to this stage, I wouldn’t have been able to get to this stage without their support and guidance.”
