Fleetwood Town have unveiled plans for a new training facility at Poolfoot Farm in Thornton.
The complex will house several new grass pitches, a state-of-the-art all weather surface as well as changing rooms, classrooms, and other community facilities
While Chief Executive Steve Curwood is yet to confirm the likely cost of the ambitious project, the club are anxious to allay fears within the local community over the potential loss of pitches at the nearby Bourne Way playing fields.
NPL Estates owns both sites and has indicated the Bourne Way fields, home to Thornton Cleveleys Football Club, is an earmarked development spot for new housing.
Curwood said concerns from local residents were key to the clubs proposal.
“We want to put public fears to rest – with that in mind we have probably come forward with our plans a little bit earlier than we might have planned to,” said Curwood.
If built, the complex will allow the League Two club to re-locate their main training base to the borough of Wyre. Graham Alexander’s first team currently train at Fylde Rugby Club in Ansdell.
“This is an extremely exciting project, and one we have been working on for more than a year now,” continued Curwood.
“The club’s progression has meant that we have become fragmented over the past few years, with our Community Trust operating from various locations, our first team training in Ansdell and our Youth Team being based at Blackpool Sixth Form College.”
“We have been very keen to find the right location in Wyre to enable us to bring everything back together once again, and with the considerable help of NPL Estates this has now been made possible.”
