Andrai Jones is hoping that a loan spell at Tranmere Rovers will kick-start his career.
The 21-year-old full-back joined the club last week on a month long loan from Barnsley and made his Tranmere debut as a substitute in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Crewe.
And with regular right-back Danny Holmes serving a suspension Jones is likely to feature this weekend when Rovers take on Peterborough United at Prenton Park.
“I want to get as many first-team games in as I can and hopefully I will be able to build on that performance at Crewe,” Jones told the Liverpool Echo.
“I heard last Friday that Tranmere have a few injuries and wanted to sign me on loan. They said they needed cover for the bench but anything can happen in football and I ended up getting an after about half an hour.”
“It’s not ideal circumstances to come on when someone gets sent off but basically I thought the lads did well with 10 men. They showed great spirit and worked hard for each other. Everyone was knackered when they came off the pitch and hopefully it’s given us something to build on for the next game.”
Jones started his career in the full-time game at Bury turning professional in the summer of 2012. He made over 20 senior appearances while at Gigg Lane but was released mid-way through last term.
He took up an invitation to train at Manchester United and subsequently joined Barnsley, where he played two games in April however he concedes that things have not gone quite to plan this year.
“The squad at Barnsley is getting bigger, numbers wise and things have not gone for me as I hoped they would. But I’m always available and I was happy to join Tranmere,” continued Jones.
“I noticed when I was at Bury last season that Tranmere have a lot of loan players who did well for them and hopefully I can do myself some good while I’m here. It’s a small group of players and the spirit is good.”
