Young U's Build On Cup Success

Young U’s Build On Cup Success

Cambridge United are in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in their history after beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at the Abbey Stadium last night.

The U’s went ahead early on thanks to a sweet strike from Glen McConnell, however, Wednesday were quickly back on level terms after Joey Phuthi weaved his way into the box and fired home past Tom Finch in the hosts’ net.

Despite the setback, Cambridge continued to pressurise the Owls and looked the more likely team to score next.

After a flurry of opportunities in the second half, the encounter seemed destined for extra time. That was until Brandon Njoku turned well in the box and drilled the ball into the back of the net in the 87th minute to send his side into the quarters in dramatic fashion.

The U’s will now travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal in the next round.
