Archer Becomes a Blade

Sheffield United have completed the signing of Cameron Archer from Aston Villa for a reported fee of £18.5m on a four-year deal.

The Villa Academy graduate joins the south Yorkshire club fresh off the back of European Championship glory with England U21s, with the 21-year-old finishing joint top scorer in the tournament with two goals.

Archer, who enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Middlesbrough last season, was keen to secure regular gametime and Sheffield United will hope that their new arrival will help in their bid for Premier League survival this season.

Upon his arrival at Brammall Lane, Archer said: “Everyone is happy if they are playing football regularly. That’s something I want to do now. I think it was important to come here and look for Premier League football, that was key for me because I want to make that next step now and challenge myself. Hopefully I can do that here.

“Sheffield United have a long history of developing players in terms of playing and hopefully making better people as well.”
