Where did you study for your BTEC with LFE?
I studied at Bristol Rovers.
What are you doing now?
After leaving the BTEC programme, I enrolled onto the degree programme facilitated by Bristol Rovers in partnership with the University of South Wales. I completed a three-year bachelor’s degree in sports coaching and development. Alongside this degree I worked part time as a teaching assistant, where I started as a volunteer and then progressed into a paid role. My current role is a BTEC Teaching Assistant within Bristol Rovers Community Education Programme, where I’m also completing my teacher training with a view to progressing into a full-time role as a BTEC tutor in September 2024.
How did the LFE programme support you with your career aspirations?
The LFE programme allowed me to develop an interest in teaching and education in sport, which opened my eyes to potential career paths, as well as providing a direct route to gaining experience and employment opportunities. The personal support and relationships I was able to build during the programme, with both LFE staff and club staff, allowed me to progress into a career in teaching. I received incredible support and guidance, whilst being challenged to develop myself.
What advice would you give to any learners on programme with us?
My main advice to learners on the programme is to complete the course with an end goal in mind. Keep this as a focus to motivate you. Not every experience will be one that you enjoy, or feel is relevant. The relationships you build with people and the transferable skills you gain throughout your time on the course will be invaluable. Every bit of experience will put you closer to where you want to be in the future. Take every opportunity you can get; you never know what you may need or use in future.
