Baggies Cool Interest in Taylor

West Brom manager Tony Pulis has insisted the club will end their pursuit of Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor if an agreement over compensation cannot be reached.

The 23-year-old, who won LFE’s Academy Goal of the Season competition in 2011, is set to be a free agent this summer and has signalled his intent to move on having spent 14 years at Elland Road.

However, with Taylor being under 24, Leeds would be entitled to a fee from the Baggies.

Pulis said: “A tribunal could put an extraordinary amount of money on it and you’re stuck with it. It’s a risk that, at this moment, is not worth taking.”

The promising left-back, awarded Player of the Season at Elland Road in 2015/16, was internally disciplined by Leeds for refusing to play in the club’s final league fixture of the campaign at Wigan.

He was fined two weeks wages following reports that West Brom had offered £3.5million in compensation for the player.

“We wanted to find out what the price was to see if we’d be interested,” Pulis added.

“If it’s going to go to tribunal, we don’t know what the price is and I think that takes us out of the game.”
