Apologies for the delay in getting my latest blog up but the week of the youth cup was absolutely manic!
We spent most of the week as you can imagine preparing for a tough match against Palace. We worked on our passing and supporting our front men and had a tactical briefing on the Tuesday prior to the game which put us in good shape leading up to it.
The match against Palace itself was massive. St James’ Park under the lights what more can you ask for! Unfortunately I didn’t make the starting eleven on this occasion which is always disappointing but at the same time we have a lot of good players and the coaches can only play eleven at any one time which meant I had to be content on the bench. Saying that our team spirit is such that it’s almost a one for all attitude here anyway and I was buzzing to be involved.
It was quite exciting early doors and Palace looked a very capable team but on twenty minutes we took the lead thanks to an Adjei free kick. We then managed to take advantage of a bit sloppy defending to go two up just three minutes later again courtesy of Sammy!
At this point I thought we were going to run away with things but all credit to Palace as back they came and reduced the deficit courtesy of a penalty! Their second in as many minutes – when their striker stepped forward to take the second after missing his previous attempt about 60 seconds earlier I did think *?@@!% $^?? that takes a bit of nerve!
We managed to get our game together after the break and we got our two goal cushion back when phil slotted home from at the back post. Sammy then sealed the game with a driven shot across the keeper. They got a late goal but the game was over then. So a semi final beckons! What a season this could be!
