Rising Stars – Watch Video

On Sunday 4th March 2007 at the Grosvenor Hotel in London The Football League held their annual awards ceremony. On a night of celebrating success throughout the league the young stars of the future also tasted a moment in the spotlight.

The Wickes Young Apprentice Trophy recognises the outstanding young apprentice in the Coca-Cola Championship and is decided upon by a panel of judges consisting of former Republic of Ireland International, Andy Townsend, Football League Youth Development Monitor, Harry Wilson, PFA Education Officer, Pat Lally, Wickes’ Matt Cooke and FourFourTwo’s Luke Nicoli.

In front of the SKY TV cameras Chris Gunter (Cardiff City) pipped an impressive field to the award which recognises outstanding academic and footballing achievements during the season.

Joe Skarz of Huddersfield Town picked up the award for League One while Joe Thompson of Rochdale took the plaudits in League Two.

LFE would like to extend its congratulations to all three winners.
