Earlier this week Sheffield Wednesday announced that Academy Manager Sean McAuley has signed a new five-year contract at Hillsborough.
McAuley, who has overseen the Academy set up at Middlewood Road for the past three years, has been instrumental in progressing homegrown talents such as Mark Beevers, Tommy Spurr, Sean McAllister, Luke Boden, Richard O’Donnell and Rocky Lekaj from the youth team to first team squad members.
Chairman Lee Stafford said:
“The Academy has been a massive asset to Sheffield Wednesday in recent years and securing Sean’s services on a five-year contract means that will continue.”
“Sean has done an excellent job for this Club and we are giving him the remit to expand the Academy’s operations so that we can spread our net in terms of recruitment and support our scholars to the highest level.”
Sean McAuley said:
“I am delighted to commit my future to Sheffield Wednesday. It has been thoroughly rewarding to see so many Academy players progress to the first team since I have been here but there is so much more that we want to achieve as an Academy.”
