Terry Gornell helped League One Tranmere Rovers to a deserved 2–0 home success over Southend United at Prenton Park last night.
The victory saw Rovers pick up their first points in five outings as they look to recover following a poor start to the season.
Gornell’s 72nd minute strike ended the prospect of a nervy finale for the Wirral Club as Southend passed up two glorious chances to equalise an Ian Goodison opener for the hosts.
First Shaleum Logan’s goal-line clearance denied Sean Morrison an equaliser before home keeper Luke Daniels did well to block an Adam Barrett strike. Gornell’s angled drive sealing the points for Rovers.
