Hinshelwood Happy To Step Up

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton & Hove Albion Director of Football Martin Hinshelwood admits he is happy to take charge following the departure of Russell Slade, but says he will take things day by day.

Hinshelwood, now in his fourth spell in the hot seat, will be assisted by Steve Brown and Charlie Oatway, and insists he is happy to prepare the team for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Wycombe Wanderers if required.

Speaking on the Club’s official website, Hinshelwood said,

“I was asked yesterday if I would take care of things day to day at the training ground, with Steve and Charlie on board, until a new Manager is appointed.”

“I’ve been given no indication as to when that might be – it could be tomorrow, Wednesday or after the weekend. So we’ll take things day by day.”

“We’re just going to look at Monday and Tuesday. Then, if we’re still in charge after Wednesday, we’ll have a look at what we’re going to do for the weekend. But if I’m still in charge I might have to get a suit because it’s a Cup game!”

Hinshelwood also admits he sympathises with Slade, after being relieved of his duties as first team manager in a similar fashion in 2002.

“It’s a sad morning because the gaffer was only here for eight months, but in that time he has made us feel part of the team. He saved us from going down, and at one stage it looked like we would never get out of jail.”

“But unfortunately that’s part and parcel of the game. We just had to get on with it today, work with the boys and work towards a result on Saturday.”
