Collister Second In Rovers Records

Joe Collister

When Joe Collister lined up for Tranmere Rovers on Saturday he became the second youngest goalkeeper ever to start a match for the Club since it joined the Football League in 1921.

The youngster who recently signed a professional deal at the Club, was just 17 years and 279 days old, putting him just outside the 17 years and 247 day record set by Nigel Adkins – now manager at Scunthorpe United.

Collister’s appearance also puts him ahead of other recent young goalkeeping debutants that include Danny Coyne (now Middlesbrough) and Steve Simonsen (now Stoke City), both of whom made their bows for the Club in the Championship, when aged 18 years old.
