Carlisle United’s Youth team coach Eric Kinder believes 18 year old striker Andy Cook still has work to do before he can become a first team squad regular.
Former ASE Apprentice Cook scored 37 times for the Club’s youth and reserve sides last season and hit five in last week’s 8-0 friendly win at Gala Fairydean.
Speaking to BBC Radio Cumbria, Kinder said:
“We know all about his goal scoring but he now has to work on other aspects of his game which are perhaps not quite as strong at the moment.”
“Unbelievably, he’s a nervous boy and he hasn’t quite done it for the reserves because he just wasn’t sure whether he deserved to be there.”
“When he’s in an environment he’s comfortable in you get to see the real player and that’s what we’ve got to keep working on.”
The teenage striker will be hoping to follow 18 year old Gary Madine’s progress from the youth ranks at Brunton Park to first team this season.
Cook was handed a professional contract in January 2009 after a haul of six hat-tricks, coupled with his no-nonsense style, convinced the United management team that he was worth a deal.
