Home Form Is Vital Admits Gornell

Young striker Terry Gornell admits that Tranmere Rovers home form will prove vital if the Wirral Club are to escape relegation from League One.

Rovers who were hit by an exodus of first team players during the summer and a change of management have struggled this term after narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season.

Propping up the League One table ahead of Saturday’s home game with Brentford, bottom Club Rovers are five points from safety.

And Gornell hopes that Rovers, who had one of the best records in division last season, can find their feet again at home.

Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside, Gornell said:

“The home games are massive for us, as they were last year. Every home game we need to take three points. We’re in a difficult situation and all pulling together to get out of it.”

With the long serving Les Parry now in charge following the sacking of John Barnes on 9th October, Rovers have seen results relatively improve with only five defeats in eleven matches.

Speaking about Parry’s influence, Gornell added:

“Les Parry is a Manager who keeps it simple, he doesn’t complicate things, which I think the lads need really. He keeps it simple and we know our individual jobs. It just makes life easier for us.”

Gornell also acknowledges the part played by former Rovers striker Wayne Allison, now he is part of the coaching staff at Prenton Park.

“The Chief is great,” he said. “He’s there on the training pitch, before games, half time and after games and he gives little pointers. The little pointers they go a long way. I’m really pleased with the Chief.”
