Friday came around very quickly and we were all looking forward to the match against Morecambe. For the first time of the season we got to go on the new first pitch as it had been waterlogged for most of the summer due to the torrential rain. The normal 6-a-sides took place and as usual everyone was treating it just as seriously as they would a proper game. The standard was particularly high and we looked in good shape for the match tomorrow. Morecambe were new to the league so they would be itching to get a result against us, and we wanted to avenge the defeat their first team inflicted upon ours not too long ago in the Carling Cup.
We started poorly and Morecambe took a deserved lead after 4 minutes. We didn’t get going until about the 20 minute mark and we then were fortunate to get back in the game thanks to a howler from the Morecambe keeper. He let Aaron McCarthy’s tame shot squirm under his body and we were back in the game. After this we went up several notches and took the lead after the break with a fine free kick from Matty Mainwearing. Ash Higgins sealed the points after coming off the bench to give us another valuable 3 points. The first team were at home to Sheffield Wednesday and picked up their first win of the season thanks to a goal on his home debut by Paul Gallagher. The training ground should be a happy place on Monday so I’m already looking forward to going in!
