Matthews Interests United And Arsenal

Cardiff City have admitted that Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal are keeping tabs on starlet Adam Matthews – but deny that any agreement has been reached to sell the £4m-rated full-back.

Matthews is the latest youngster to come off the City production belt that has produced players like Joe Ledley, Aaron Ramsey, Chris Gunter, Josh Magennis and Aaron Wildig in recent times.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger are both admirers of Matthews’ potential in a repeat of their chase for former Bluebirds star Ramsey two summers ago.

Speaking to LFE Online, former Cardiff City frontman & LFE Regional Officer, Roger Gibbins believes that Matthews would prove a hit at either of the Premier League Clubs.

“There’s no doubt that Adam is a star in the making, he’s a top young player and he’d do really well at United or Arsenal. You can’t doubt the lads potential and I’m sure it will be a case of when, not if he moves on.”

“If Cardiff need to cash in on him now then they will be able to get top dollar for him but on the other hand if he stays he could prove to be a major asset to Dave Jones’ squad as the Club looks to push for promotion.”

Speaking about the speculation regarding the youngster Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale said:

“We have had two or three enquiries and I know Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in the lad.”

“But there is no agreement with any Club, verbal or otherwise. We want Adam to stay with Cardiff and that’s what we are hoping will happen.”

“Our aim this month is to strengthen the squad and we are working on a list of players Dave Jones has provided.”
