Young Hot-Shots Boost Promotion Prospects For City and Town

Two former Apprentices, Chris Martin and Jordan Rhodes both hit doubles on Saturday as Norwich City and Huddersfield Town boosted their promotion prospects in League One.

Martin who came through the Youth ranks at Carrow Road, fired a first-half brace to set up a five goal demolition of fellow promotion hopefuls Colchester United, as the Canaries avenged their 7-1 defeat on the opening day.

Speaking prior to the fixture, City boss Paul Lambert, had played up his young strikers abilities, saying:

“He’s one of the best finishers I’ve seen for a long time. He can shoot with both feet and I know he’s only 21 but I think he’s come back here from his loan spell and adapted really quickly.”

“Honestly, every time he gets the ball I think he’s going to score. You always sense something can happen.”

Over in Yorkshire, Rhodes scored twice as Huddersfield boosted their play-off prospects with victory over Southend United at the Galpharm.

Rhodes (pictured above) converted a Robbie Williams cross just before the break and then grabbed his second from an Anthony Pilkington corner mid way through the second half.

Martin has now hit 15 goals in all competitions while Rhodes has registered 17 goals in all competitions this campaign.
