Portsmouth striker Colby Bishop enjoyed a dream return to football on Saturday after a period away from the game following heart surgery in August.
The former Notts County apprentice required the surgery after an irregularity was diagnosed during a scan.
Despite being told a return to football wasn’t likely until at least the new year, Bishop surprised many when he was included in Pompey’s matchday squad to face Preston North End at the weekend.
He made his long-awaited return in the 78th minute and just ten minutes later capped off an emotional day with a goal, converting from 12 yards to give Portsmouth their third of the afternoon and secure a crucial three points.
After the game, Bishop told Pompey+ “I’m ecstatic and a bit overwhelmed to be honest. I said to Marlon Pack that I was getting a bit teary on the pitch and that was a strange feeling because I’ve never had that. There is a lot of emotions and it’s been a tough period of time for me and my family. To get a moment like that in my first game back, it means a lot.”
