Where did you study for your BTEC with LFE?
I studied at Wigan Athletic Community Trust.
What are you doing now?
After leaving the BTEC programme, I started a Foundation Degree with the University of South Wales. I am based at Wigan Athletic studying Football Coaching. I am also working on the Premier League Kicks and Premier League Inspires programmes.
How did the LFE programme support you with your career aspirations?
When I started the BTEC I knew I wanted to teach, so after guidance and support from LFE and my tutors I have now made the decision to go into Further Education teaching, with my dream job of working on the BTEC programme. I gained work experience within the Trust in many different areas such as arranging tournaments in primary schools, coaching on sport camps and delivering the PL Kicks and PL Inspires programmes. I was also able to gain experience in the local youth centre which has allowed me to develop skills towards my future. Lastly, I was able to gain additional qualifications including Introduction to Football Coaching, Level 2 Multisport and Level 2 Youth work.
What advice would you give to any learners on programme with us?
My advice is to never give up! Even when it becomes tough, keep going as it will be worth it in the end. Also, make sure you complete work experience in different areas as something may come up that interests you.
“Caitlyn was a great learner on the programme who worked hard to gain the best grades. She already had an idea of what she wanted to do in the future, but ensured she gained the skills and confidence to put her in the best position moving forward. I am sure in a few years’ time, Caitlyn can complete her degree and teacher training to enable her to work in the FE sector, as she will be a great role model to learners.”
