Sutton United have handed a professional deal to attacking right-back Roman Charles-Cook, having been a prominent member of the academy team.
The 18-year-old featured in the club’s FA Youth Cup run to the third round – losing to Preston North End on penalties – as well as completing a successful first season in the EFL Youth Alliance.
Manager Matt Gray said: “Roman has really impressed me over the past season. He’s got real athleticism, he’s good going forward and he’s got huge potential for us to work with, so we look forward to working with him day in, day out, and bringing him in to the first team fold.
“Once again, it highlights the good work of the academy after producing Kylian, who progressed so well last season.”
Academy manager Marvin Williams added: “Roman has been fantastic since joining the academy, and we are all thrilled that he has been rewarded with a professional contract.
Meanwhile, Charles-Cook said: “I’m really delighted to be signing my first professional contract and can’t wait to get started on the season and tackle every challenge that comes. I’ve developed from where I was before and I’ve had great coaching from Rick, Ross, Marvin and all the coaching staff in the academy which helped me to get to where I am now.”
