Former Rochdale Apprentice Dennis Sherriff has signed for Unibond League Division One Club Woodley Sports.
Forward, Sherriff who has just completed his two-year Apprenticeship at Rochdale, attended LFE’s Assessment Trials in May after finding out that he was to be released by Dale.
Now Woodley have stepped forward to take advantage of the forward’s prowess in front of goal. Sherriff has netted over 40 goals for Dale’s Youth and Reserve team over the past two seasons.
The forward, who has previously been out on loan at Woodley now hopes this move can be a stepping stone back in to the professional game.
He told the Club’s website:
“I am extremely happy signing for Woodley Sports because I know what the Club is about. The Club is set for each player to develop, and I have a lot of faith in the management as they are true to their word.”
“The Club has good facilities and a very group of players. I would like to thank Gareth and Eddy for calling me, and bringing me back to the Club as I know they will support me in my ambition to play professional football.”
“Sometimes you need to take a step back to go forward. Finally, I am looking forward to doing big things with Woodley this season.”
Commenting on the signing, Woodley boss Gareth McClelland said:
“Dennis has a fantastic scoring record for Rochdale Reserves and I am confident he will continue this form for us this coming season.”
“Whilst on loan last season he demonstrated a positive attitude and a hunger to succeed, as he worked for the team on and off the ball, which is important in our league. I feel he has a lot of potential, and it is a pleasure having this young man back at our Club.”
