Match: Manchester United vs Stoke City
Probably the most glamorous fixture in our season, United away and this would be a good time to put in a good performance. The conditions at Carrington were awful and it was the windiest game that I’ve been involved in. We started the game off very well and set a good tempo for the game. We played some good football and created some chances and corners as well as a lot of football being played around their box. Jimmy in particular played well in the first half and his efforts were rewarded when he took it around the right back and a clumsy challenge resulted in a penalty. I stepped up to take the penalty and managed to put the ball in the corner of the goal and away from the outstretched keeper’s glove.
We managed to keep hold of the lead all the way up to the interval and the second half we had the wind in our favour. But it didn’t start well for us and we found ourselves level after around 2 minutes of the first half. Things didn’t stay tied for long when the next attack from kick off was lofted up to me and I managed to get the ball under control then turn. I saw the goalkeeper off his line and managed to chip the ball up and over into the back of the net. We continued to dominate the game but a defensive mistake proved costly and they capitalised. Again we found ourselves level for the 3rd time in the game. Things stayed like this all the way to full time although in the dying minutes after a good passage of play down the right hand side we hit the woodwork when we should really have done better with the opportunity.
