A local East Midlands derby gave Nottingham Forest’s Under-18’s local bragging rights with a remarkable 6-3 victory over Derby County in the Academy League on Saturday.
Forest came from behind to score six goals against the Rams at Wilford Lane. Tom Mullen grabbed a hat-trick, while Danny Meadows, Neil Byrne and George Thomson also got on the score-sheet.
Coach Eoin Jess said:
“I was a little bit disappointed with our first half display but we improved significantly after the break. We were more committed and passed the ball a great deal better and got our just reward.”
17 year old Tom Mullen is unlikely to forget his ‘derby’ treble in a hurry after he and defender Carl Sibson were singled out for praise from Jess.
Forest have now won their last three Academy League games while Derby have won one and drawn one in their last four games.
