Football Can Be Cruel At Times

Hello readers,

With only two weeks and two games till the end of the season every game feels like a cup final. Something we have in our favour however, is the experience we gained from being so close to getting promoted last year. But complacency, a word nobody likes in football, is something we were definitely guilty of last weekend and can no longer afford if we want to win the league.

Last Sunday we travelled to Kramfors in the hope of getting all three points and improving our goal difference as Ostersund played on Saturday and won 3-1. Fortunately we did get all three points but we made really hard work of it on an awful surface. As a team we know we don’t play well on bad pitches because we like to get the ball down and pass it, but it was the same for both teams and we cannot use that as an excuse.

We were 1-0 up at half time and added a second mid-way through the second half to ease the tension. But a rare mistake from Lloyd, who came out to catch a cross and dropped it, resulted in them scoring to make it 2-1. This gave them the belief they could get back into the game and they put us under a lot of pressure with less than 20 minutes to go in the second half.

Another lapse in concentration cost us again, as one long ball beat our defence and they went on to lob Lloyd for the equaliser. We had squandered a 2-0 lead and they had fully deserved a point from the game after their second half performance. But football can be cruel at times.

With less than two minutes of normal time left, Brad managed to control the ball in their box, wriggle past two players and poke the ball past their goalkeeper to make it 3-2. The whole team was delighted, and no one more so than Lloyd who felt he let the side down by dropping the ball, but he’s saved us so many times this season and has been one of our best players. We are now joint top of the league on points and goal difference and the only thing separating us is head to heads.

As I’d mentions before, on Saturday I planned to go and watch Kraig’s team play in Sundsvall. Sadly, his team lost 3-0 against Hillie who had already won the league and Kraig’s team are now second from bottom and at risk of being relegated from division three. Luckily though, their last two games are against the team above them and the team below, so if they win both they will stay up and won’t have to go into a play off to see who gets relegated.

This weekend were playing Jusele at home, a game we must win to keep our hopes of being champions alive. Wish us luck.
