Southend United forward Jack Payne has won a closely fought battle to scoop the October 2011 Goal of the Month award.
A neat turn followed by a powerful strike from Payne against Dagenham & Redbridge on 22 October received 30 per cent of votes.
On voting deadline day there were three goals all within a whisker of eachother to picking up the prize, in a month that saw over six thousand votes casted.
Crystal Palace’s Kyle Da Silva and Portsmouth’s George Colson were the closest challengers to the Shrimpers hitman.
The top three Apprentices voted for by the public (and number of votes) were:
1. Jack Payne – Southend United (1906)
2. Kyle Da Silva – Crystal Palace (1690)
3. George Colson – Portsmouth (1534)
Payne joins Bristol City’s Elan Gordon and Portsmouth’s Ashley Harris in qualifying for the 2011-12 goal of the season competition.
