Students have received recognition for their excellent academic progress and positive contribution at their club by making the shortlist for LFE’s Learner of the Term for January to April 2024.
Here are the runners-up, who have both been awarded a £40 Amazon voucher.
Leon Considine – Northampton Town Community Trust
Northampton Town’s Leon Considine has enjoyed a successful year on the programme, both in an academic and sporting sense. Academic Lead Tutor and Coach, Tom Ash, detailed Leon’s impressive term.
“Leon has demonstrated an excellent attitude in the classroom and in his footballing development. Externally, Leon is a qualified football referee and will regularly officiate games to increase his work experience hours and develop his personal skillset. Leon cycles in and out of the programme, is always on time and brings a positive attitude to all sessions. Leon had missed some football during the term due to injury but showed great resilience to follow his rehab plan to ensure that he was ready to return after the easter break. Despite this injury, he has not let it impact his engagement and success in the programme. Leon continued to achieve good grades during the term, building on the strong start he has made since joining us in September. Recently, Leon was able to referee in the Utilita Cup hosted by Northampton Town Community Trust where teams travelled from as far as Exeter and Bristol to attend. CT staff identified that Leon displayed a high level of enthusiasm and professionalism to support the tournament.”
Oliver Blogg – Southend United Community Trust
Southend United’s Oliver Blogg is coming to the end of his Community Trust Study Programme and has enjoyed a progressive an transformative two years.
Head of Education, Andy Edmunds, said: “Oliver has been with us for two years, enrolling onto the programme in August 2022. When he began his journey with us, Oliver was quite shy. He joined us knowing what he wanted to pursue a career in the sports industry but wasn’t sure what he’d like to do.
“In the last term (January to April), Oliver successfully passed his Functional Skills Level 2 Maths qualification and continued to complete his work to a good standard. His attendance and punctuality has been excellent. He’s consistently working hard to achieve a pass or merit grade on his submissions for all units, a target of his going into his second-year.
“Oliver has also completed some work experience hours with the Community Foundation which has aided his confidence and communication skills. He is well respected by the whole education department and is always polite and respectful towards staff and fellow students.”
Oliver’s tutor, Stuart Avis, added: “Oliver has been a pleasure to teach, especially this term and I am extremely proud of his development, both as a person and a player. He has an excellent work ethic and is consistent with everything he does, either on the pitch or in the classroom.”
Congratulations from everyone at LFE, Leon and Oliver!
